Let’s Catch Up: Part 1

Let's Catch UpPart 1

There has been a good deal of negativity and “strongly worded” opinions online lately.  When I started my vacation last week I decided that a social media detox was in order.  Pinterest didn’t count.  I needed something.  Ideally, my vacation was supposed to be a time of organization and relaxation.  Even on vacation I can’t get out of my own way.  The organization part definitely happened, the relaxation part, not so much.

There is a lot of catch you up on, that’s why this is Part 1.  I decided to start back off with a bang and show you the crowning jewel of my vacation and the reason why I didn’t get much relaxing done.

When I moved home almost two years ago I inherited my colorblind brother’s old bedroom.  Really, almost all of the men on my mother’s side of my family are colorblind, including my two brother’s.  Hence, the green monster.  I did my best to work with it, but no amount of faerie lights or Martha Stewart cut-outs could fix this mess.

I spend an entire day purging my belongings and organizing my life.  It ended up being a huge success and all it took was a can do attitude and a six pack of beer.

Hot off my triumph I woke up early the next day and hit up Home Depot and Ikea.  I love Ikea a little too much.  Sometimes I take day trips and wander around looking for inspiration.

I decided to do my big redecoration on the hottest day of the year, but the sweat was worth it.  Little Eddie found his nip turtle and I had a room that was finally starting to feel like my own.  While a fresh coat of paint and newly built Ikea shelves made a huge impact something was still missing.  Luckily, a trip to Mystic and The Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market fixed that.  Mystic will be part of Part 2 so come back for that!

I picked the hottest day of the year to paint my room and the second hottest day of the year to walk around a giant field filled with antiques.  Being a huge fan of Flea Market Flip it was so exciting to finally take a trip here.  Unfortunately, a lot of people are huge fans of Flea Market Flip and the day-trippers from the city are more than willing to pay full price for over-priced items.  I desperately wanted the above arches for over my bed, but the $25 a piece were so not worth it!  I couldn’t make a decent deal because some people had no problem paying the full price.

Speaking of Flea Market Flip…. I saw them filming an episode!  Host Lara was nowhere to be seen, but both teams were making there way around.  I think it was a Jersey Shore themed episode because the teams were quite tan and toned.  Some of the magic of the show was ruined when my friend and I observed them filming takes which squashed the whole, “You have one hour to find your items,” aspect of the show.

Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for…

While relaxation didn’t happen during my vacation it’s happening twice a day now.  You see everywhere articles on mindful meditation and I decided to give it a shot.  So far, so good.  I’ll keep you updated on my progress, especially since I reactivated Facebook for blog purposes.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek inside my newly decorated digs.  Stop by tomorrow for the rest of my non-restful vacation!
